Mark Rais
Volunteer Senior Editor in New Zealand & Author of 'Linux for the Rest of Us' 3rd Edition
Mark Rais serves as our volunteer editor, helping us promote technology articles in over 150 countries.
Mark has been involved in numerous infrastructure and government projects in New Zealand, assisting with the MoH Cancer Registry system operations manual, the Inland Revenue
KiwiSaver web portal systems documentation, as well as the assisting the Office of the Clerk automation tools and serving with numerous other government orgs.
Prior to these roles, Mark Rais was a Senior Technology Manager at Aol Inc and Netscape, leading infrastructure teams with up to 31 direct reports. Mark's teams were responsible for several of the largest internet publishing projects in the world.
Mark began his IT career as junior developer, growing through the ranks to become a Senior Technology Manager for Aol Inc, and then eventually leading a team at Netscape from their Mountain View HQ.
He served as a manager and retired from the company after 7 years, or about 29,000 hours!
During those extremely intense times, Mark was the lead technical manager on the AOL Shopping Web Portal which supported over $1 Billion USD in transactions in first year.
Mark Rais was also the lead senior technical manager for the first reality TV website for the AOL/CBS Big Brother reality show, which at the time broke world-wide records for maximum internet connectivity (over 500,000 hits /second).
Mark Rais continues to support the Linux and OpenSource community, as a volunteer senior editor for Reallylinux.com. Rais has authored or contributed to five books including
Linux for the Rest of Us 3rd Ed, as well as over one hundred industry articles.
